APALF is a non-partisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization designed to help prepare and better equip AAPI leaders for public service and civic involvement.  The APALF Leadership and Candidate Training  Bootcamp has served as the premier training program for Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) leaders seeking public office since 2003. The Annual CALNET Leadership Retreat, initiated in 2014, is a two-day conference that brings together a select group of AAPI elected and appointed leaders, key decision-makers, policy experts, political strategists, and business leaders. Open to current California AAPI elected and appointed officials.

Garry Tan is the President and CEO of Y Combinator and a prominent Silicon Valley entrepreneur who co-founded Initialized Capital. Beyond his impact on the technology sector, Garry has emerged as a vocal advocate for the AAPI community, using his platform to demand greater safety, accountability, and representation in local government. His partnership with APALF reflects his personal commitment to empowering a new generation of “builders” who are ready to lead with courage and civic purpose.

The San Francisco Bay Area AAPI Leadership & Mentorship Program is a cornerstone initiative designed to recruit, train, and mentor emerging leaders for public service in the Bay Area. This highly selective program provides intensive training and executive mentorship to prepare AAPI candidates for meaningful civic engagement, ensuring that the Bay Area’s leadership is as diverse and dynamic as the community it serves.
