About the Program
Garry Tan is the President and CEO of Y Combinator and a prominent Silicon Valley entrepreneur who co-founded Initialized Capital. Beyond his impact on the technology sector, Garry has emerged as a vocal advocate for the AAPI community, using his platform to demand greater safety, accountability, and representation in local government. His partnership with APALF reflects his personal commitment to empowering a new generation of “builders” who are ready to lead with courage and civic purpose.
The San Francisco Bay Area AAPI Leadership & Mentorship Program is a cornerstone initiative designed to recruit, train, and mentor emerging leaders for public service in the Bay Area. This highly selective program provides intensive training and executive mentorship to prepare AAPI candidates for meaningful civic engagement, ensuring that the Bay Area’s leadership is as diverse and dynamic as the community it serves.
Program Goals
• Create a self-sustaining pipeline of AAPI candidates, civic leaders, community organizers
and public service minded citizens.
• Build a long-term infrastructure that strengthens civic capacity and sustains AAPI leadership
responsive to the community.
